I am a proud Australian whose family has a long military connection to both wars . This was the first defeat of the Japanese after Pearl Harbour . The Chinese had inflicted several defeats ( Changsha October 1939 and Guangxi November 1939 )on Japan prior to Pearl Harbour .The war with Japan started in 1937 not 1941. Just as the war in Europe commenced in 1939 , not 1941.This does not diminish the achievement at Milne Bay in any way.

I'd argue that 1942 was the most important year in Australian history. Singapore, Coral Sea, Kokoda, Milne Bay, Douglas Macarthur and John Curtin unite, Americans in the Solomon's. Billy Hughes could be argued as Australia's most important prime minister having the foresight that Australian involvement in the First World War would secure the German terroritory in Papua that otherwise could have been handed to Japan, who had been an ally to the British Empire and Australia in the First World War. Hughes had determined that Australia would be at war against Japan in the coming decades and thus deenying Japan 20 years of turning the former German territory into a fortress, like Iwo Jima but with jungle.

Not as interested in it until later years, I'm not as versed in the minutae of the Pacific War as the European, so I wouldn't & won't know how accurate your retelling is us until becoming so. However, I most enjoy the way you present them sticking to the facts without projecting trite anti-Japanese bias. Well done.
